09 R6S. Repainting fairings?

Got ran off the road and scratched up my fairings pretty good. I sanded them down to where they are smooth and was hoping for some advice on the best way to fix them. I ordered some new fairings (so I have an two sets now) that are primed and ready to be painted so I can afford to make a mistake. So, anyone have any advice or a tutorial on how to paint? Does anyone do paint work that I can send you my fairings and you paint them for me? Thanks for the help.

Do you have a good place to paint the fairings? Are you planing on rattle can or using and hvlp or spray gun? Best advice i can give is prep and more prep. Also the primer that usually comes on fairings either track or street sucks. Sand em down and re-primer them with a primer sealer. Im on my phone so posting a link is a pita. Go on to bayarearidersforum.com in the garage section there is a sticky for rattle can paint. My bike i painted with a rattle can/ hvlp gun combo. The white pearl and clear was hvlp. The black and red was rattle can with hvlp clear coat. Got any specific questions pm me.

Re: 09 R6S. Repainting fairings?

Depending on how hard it sounded and what information I have found when researching will determine whether or not I am going to attempt it or just continue to search for an experienced painter. I might try the rattle can on the damaged set just to see how it turns out and yes I have plenty of room. So, I need to make sure its sanded extremely well and then re-prime it.

I would recommend practicing on the damaged piece. One of the hardest things about painting is prep work and patience. Everyone wants to rush it take your time. I spray with a cheap hvlp from harbor freight. Does the job. Not the best spray gun in the world but will lay a semi smooth finish that i can wet sand and buff. Its not impossible just take your time try it out on the damaged piece. If it doesn't work give the paint to who ever you want to paint it and sell the 40 dollar gun. Nothing lost except a little cash on the gun. If it does work u learned a valuable trade in the motorcylce community.

Re: 09 R6S. Repainting fairings?

If you would like to have them painted, i can do it, i have 6 years in painting experience, i have painted in body shops and i also was a main painter at duncan aviation, i painted private jets, if you would like me to do it i would be more then happy to, i do have the equipment i need all you have to do is decide what color/colors you would like and ship them to me and we can also come to an agreement on how much it will cost you for me to do it, i price fair, im not gonna eat you alive on charging you to do it.

Thanks for all the advice everyone.
That is a great build thread but I don't have anywhere near the skills needed to do what you did lol.
