That's a pretty good point. NASCAR always a much closer race than F1, so strategic pit stops tend to be a little bit more of a critical decision. That's especially true now that F1 banned refueling.. every other race most drivers only do one pit stop and they get in and out in less than three seconds.

Re: f1 vs nascar

F1 is far more strategic than Nascar. They change fuel maps and driving techniques to change tire wear to create certain windows for pit stops. After all this years Monaco Grand Prix was decided purely on pit stop length and strategy.

F1 is a giant game of chess. everything is strategy and as little as possible is left to chance. Nascar is typically a closer race because they constantly have yellow flags that bunch the field back up and doesn't let anyone get a big gap. Race finishes are different in F1 races when the safety car come out midway through the race versus the races that the safety car never come out in.

You don't follow Nascar at all do you? They have a lot more strategy than you are giving them credit for. They have to drive certain ways for tires and fuel as well.
Ever seen a f1 car have to cut the engine off in the turns just to have enough fuel to finish and not only finish but win, drop 1 psi in 1 tire to fix a problem, then the whole deal of drafting, etc.

When you have 40 identical cars all right there together it all comes down to strategy

It's a simple case of apples and oranges. I'd be willing to bet that most people on this forum would choose Formula 1 (as would I), but some people prefer bumper-to-bumper action instead of performance and technology.

But boy am I excited for Brazil. I love both Vettel and Alonso so it's gonna be interesting to see what happens.
Someone who's good with computers please draw the NASCAR logo to say MARGINAL instead. Would be hilarious.
