Someone knocked over my bike! <rage!>

So... somebody knocked over my bike in my apartment complex.

There I was, sitting in my apartment in peace when I hear a knock at the door. My neighbor tells me my bike is on its side. RAGE!!

I go to check it out and sure enough, she's on her right side. I pull it upright and luckily, my fairing guard (forget the name for the part) took 80% of the damage. It's banged up with a few scratches on my mirror and brake bar, but here's the worst part...

A 1/4th of my foot peg chipped off... -.-

I called down to my apartment's office and checked to see if there was anything they could do about it, but without knowing who it was, there's nothing. I'm pretty sure it was these kids that I've seen around my bike (and were playing outside when I found out about my bike), but again... no proof without harassing the kids. :\

So... short of a police report, is there anything I can do about this? I really doubt the police can do much of anything, so why file a report? If I talk to my insurance... will my rate go up, even though it was absolutely no fault of my own? Can I murder some ****ing children?

bah, so much rage right now! >.<

Ah, the ole apartment complex thread.

Advice is to invest in a storage garage before it gets stolen.

looking at the damage it would probably be cheaper for you to fix it yourself rather than put a claim in and having to pay out a deductible.

Re: Someone knocked over my bike! <rage!>

If I was to fix this by myself, I wouldn't need to replace the whole the rearset, yes?
Just the foot peg, which is held in by a rivet?

Which would probably be easier? The rearset or the peg?

You can buy replacement pegs but looking at where the peg broke suggests its a poor quality rearset and you should probably invest in better ones (woodcraft, driven, etc). Theyll run you 300-600 dollars but will protect the bike better than frame sliders in the event of being dropped.

Unfortunately, I don't have that kind of money and the rearset was stock.

Then just replace the peg then.
