swapping out subframe, is it necessary to remove gas tank?

Hey Guys,

I figured I'd ask here since I know you guys are all gear heads and could probably replace the subframe while sleep walking.

I've searched and i've basically come to the conclusion that removeing the tank will make my life easier. However, my gas tank is currently full =( and I have no means of burning off the fuel.

I need to replace the subframe and the hinge for the tank (it cracked on the sides) I will definitely have to remove the tank in the future once my replacement tank arrives in the maill.

My question, is there anyway to mcguiver a way to replace the subframe without completely removing the gas tank? i just don't want to deal with the fuel thats gonna come out =P (not yet anyways)

Thanks in advance guys

What year is the bike? Gas never comes out of mine when I disconnect the fuel lines. Well you get the gas that's in the lines to come out, but the gas in the tank stays in the tank.

Fuel won't come out of the tank when you disconnect it.

hmmmm so your saying is that the fuel in the tank won't leak out? only the fuel in the lines on the bike? so I don't need to stand by with a bucket?

Just get some rags to set around the area if you are really worried about the fuel in the lines. I never really worry about it because it isn't that much gas that will come from the line. When you put it back together though, make sure you put all the lines back on. I forgot one (don't work on a bike while drinking jack) and tried to crank it a few times, dumped gas everywhere.
