What's up everyone, I'm Kyle, and I'm new. I'm not really new to sportbikes though, I have a 2009 CBR 600RR that I keep for the street. Done a few trackdays on it though. I'm an aspiring racer hoping to try my hand at racing in the next couple of seasons with WERA's North Central region. I recently picked up my R6... and I'll probably get called a BS'er but whatever....
Story is I posted up on Facebook that I was looking for a track bike (but I didn't have much scratch) and I got a call from a guy I haven't talked to in four years. I deployed in the Marine Corps with him then, but we were more acquaintances than friends... well he proceeds to tell me he has a theft recovery 2008 R6 that he happened into. He attempted to get it retitled and rebuilt but he never had the cash or resources and basically gave up... so he sold it to me with 1,300 miles on it for $250. Yes, $250, not a typo.
It's had a hard life for 1,300, but I drove from Kentucky to Wisconsin this past weekend to pick it up and I've stripped off what I won't be using for the track that I hope to sell in the classifieds to offset some of my costs. When I bought it, it was missing all the fairings and headlights except for everything attached to the tail piece, and it had the front fender... so it's pretty much perfect.
Before anyone starts flaming and suggesting it's stolen, I have a bill of sale (no title) and I ran the VIN through every search I could find, called my sheriff's department to have it run in their database, called the DMV to have it checked by them, even called the California DMV where it was last titled to have it checked there. The bike is clean
Here's a pic... I'll have lots of questions so bare with me. Also I heard these years have an issue with oiling in race conditions? Can anyone point me to a thread explaining this?
