im looking to go to the 1/4 mile in the spring and im wondering if anyone has any advice on setup for the 1/4
currently im lowered an inch in the front ans stock height in rear, i do have a 1-2in lowering links for rear, would lowering the rear an inch or 2 help with 1/4 times and launch?? or leave stock rear and 1 inch in the front?
my suspension setup i have 3 lines stiffer (than stock) in preload in the front to reduce nose diving under hard braking and 2 clicks stiffer (than stock) on rebound.
on the rear i have the preload turned all the way up to reduce squat on the rear (which i hate) and also helps too power wheelie. i also ride a passanger alot so helps keep the tail up
but im sure this will hurt some on launch as it will be TOO stiff and front will come up easier
my bike wheelies very easy on the stret and under full throttle the front comes up ahout 3 inches in 1st
i have olson slip on, power commander with dyno tune and -1+2 on sprockets
I would do -3 in the rear, pull the forks up a little bit, maybe an inch, and put a lowering strap on the front. That should be plenty to get you solidly into the 10s.
I would pull the forks up through the clamps about an inch total. Then, buy a strap and bracket kit. The brackets mount to the brake calipers and provide a mounting point for the lowering strap. The lowering strap is basically a tiedown strap with different ends. It loops from caliper, over the frame behind the steering head, then down to the other caliper. When you pull the loop tight, it compresses the fork down, lowering the front more.
how is that ,much more different than just having the front lowered through the clamps like i have now? because the forks arnt compressed right now and with the straps they are?

It allows you to lower the front more which DRAMATICALLY reduces the ability for the bike to wheelie. I say use the strap and pull the forks up because you can get an inch with the fork pull, then another 3 with the strap without bottoming out the fork completely which can be dangerous if you overload the front, especially on the brakes at the tall end of the track.
you want it to squat a little but not so much that it breaks traction. I keep low speed compression soft in the rear, and the high speed pretty stiff to absorb that initial hit. As for preload, I dont use much, but then, my rear travel is limited by the swingarm hitting the subframe. The front is kinda useless to mess with if you use a strap.
