It goes on a little thicker than laquer. And yes you can tape off, but you have to remove the tape while the dip is still wet to get clean lines. Don't worry about taping off the headlights though as it will peel clean off of them.
I just finished 5-7 coats of red and black on my plastics, levers, and rearsets. Used plasti dip. Shits amazing. It's cheap, easy clean-up, durable, matte color, and you can remove it and redo it anytime you want. Check out dipyourcar.com for the best color selection. It comes in all sorts of colors, liquid for high volume spray applications, aerosol for rims/parts/etc, and the even have a taillight smoker. You can usually find the red/black/clear aerosol cans for about $9 at ace hardware...but only in those colors and usually no more than 3 cans of each. If youre wanting to try a new color but don't want to spend an assload of cash for some something you might not like try this shit, it's wicked.
Im curious to see the more long term durability I looked into this but settled on vinyl. Have you used any type of wax or coat on it? Alot of people were saying that applying a good strong wax will help. I hope you keep us updated I would be very interested to see if you start getting some flecks, or peeling. Hope it works out well and please put up more pics!
I got a little peeling on my rearsets and levers, dipped black....but I was lazy and didnt prep very well for those. I have yet to apply any wax, but when I do I'll let you know what happens. I would have done vinyl as well, but I'm too broke. Lol.
I was thinking about getting my R6 Painted matte white, but I wasn't sure if I would like it or not. In the past I have done some plasti dip work to my G8 gt. So I decided to dip my left lower fairing white. I think it came out looking really nice. Now I'm thinking about dipping more of the bikes fairings white. It took about 6 - 7 coats. What do you guys think?
If you feel like you're in control you're not going fast enough.
