Both!!! That's what I did!! They both have slightly different things to offer but both are great bikes. I personally like NOT having fly by wire on the S, the higher gearing, and the ergos are slightly better for the street. With that said, I like the seating position for the track on the "r"; it puts my big ass in a more aggressive position, rather than a tad more upright, like on the S. Meh...Keep it.
You should try moving your clip-ons below the triple clamp instead of on top of it.

Ummm, why, that's defeats the purpose as to why I enjoy it as a commuter bike......Also, it's not made for lower clips; I helped someone else who actually did that and it fawked up the ride...

Que? It works fine. Tons of people mount them below for the track, for basically the exact issue you've got with it.
But yeah, if you like having them up top for the street, probably more work than is worth it every time you go to the track.

Really, I heard turn in was affected dramatically...???
I'd just take the "r"....lol I still want to give the S one more shot on the track, just to see if it was me making up shit in my head. Her mid range powa is most impressive......
I don't know why moving the clip-ons lower would effect turn in. They might hit on the fairings at full lock, depending on the angle you put them at, and how low you go. Not really an issue on the track as the only time you're at full lock is toodling around the pits at 5mph, maybe.
Ive got a 09 r6s i bought it new I've put a slip on and a air filter Im thinking of moding the rest out.... fuel delivery full exhaust maybe some v stacks pretty inexpensive mods. Or I can buck up to a newer 3rd gen. It's not like I do alot of track riding anyway mostly caynon and street cruisen but the coupe times I've went its like there snickering behind my back this guys got a S model hehe". Anyway at this point in my riding I want some more gitty up kinda want to step into the 3 gens not that in unhappy with my bike now just the performance and handling of the 3s is enticing
It is very likely that you won't be any faster on a 3rd gen than your 2nd gen. Forget what others say and concentrate on your riding. Fast riders typically aren't fast just because they have fast bikes.
If you want to mod the S, consider spending coin on tires and suspension rather than engine mods.

Not sure myself to be honest, but the other member told me in that config, it was a bit harder to turn in...I've seen folks run after markets on the S, just NOT below the triple.
