I need to replace that piece around the headlight and I started into it, and I assume there is no other way to get it off? I have everything loose except for the one screw by the air intake. Thanks!

Removing the whole thing is the easiest and less-scratch prone way... don't be lazy :P

It's pretty easy, actually.

Take the 4 bolts out holding the fairing stay and remove the whole front. Its pretty easy.

Haha, ok. I just didn't want to have to take off both side fairings too.
