Factory Pro is the only one that makes the shims as far as i know, i had to make mine, probably your best bet is to find something close and modify them. I found some that the I.D. fit good, but the O.D. was to big, so i turned them down on a lathe. You might check a hobby shop that sells rc parts, Du-Bro makes a good assortment of washers that might get you close.

The only down fall i can see is i have heard people going back to the oem needles and not using the Factory Pro needles, i did the same thing and had great results. The problem with the Factory Pro needles is they fit sloppy in the green retainers.

FP needles are sloppy, that's why they include washers (aka shims) to put on top of the needle to make them more solid. I could never get a smooth tune with their needles. I might even be the 1st one in this thread that experimented with the OEM needles and shimming them up, with great results. I compared the FP needle to the OE needle and noticed the taper at the end was dramatically different, that's what made me go back to the factory needles.
I think someone mentioned getting a washer pack from Radio Shack that had washers that fit too.

FactoryPro spec custom V stax
Two Bros slip on (chopped)
Dyno Jet stage 1 kit, I think... (needles have 6 slots)
Clips on 3rd slot. 2 washers on top
Mains jets: 142's on 1 and 2
140's on 2 and 3
Pilots are 35's (WTF? Non Cali model???)
Mix screws are 2.75 turns out
200ft above sea level
I just cleaned carbs and it runs good and smooth through the whole RPM range with these new settings. Put a new set of plugs in too. I want to get some #40 pilots if it will make it run even better but I have no complaints as of now.
I have this adjustable timing advancer I want to install but need a second opinion on the way it should be set. I think I need to turn the outside piece clockwise to get the advance 3 degrees. The way it's set in the pic I believe to be advanced. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks
Finally found the original one, took the old cover off today and checked the +4 against the factory. The +4 moves the pickup points clockwise. +4 is only about 3/16". So you should compare the original and adjust the aftermarket one accordingly.
Thanks shush. After staring at it for another hour or so I put it on last weekend and set it on the second mark clockwise from the middle. I also opened the mix screws to 3.5 turns and holy sh*t!!! What a difference that little part made. I got more throttle response and now It pulls the front tire up on a hard shift to 3rd and it barely did before.
I do have some surging when I'm cruising. Prolly from the 35 pilots. Hoping the 40's I ordered will smooth that out.

Cool, glad to hear this. Surging during cruise, pilots will help that some. Raising the needle will affect the cruise more. Mine was that way for awhile, then the last time I had the carbs out, I added another shim and the 6-8k surge when cruising went away completely.
I was getting amazing gas mileage before (160-170 miles per tank), but it is noticeably less now(140-150ish). The trade off for a completely smooth running bike at all throttle openings, off idle to WOT is worth losing a couple of MPG.

Are any of you guys running the 2nd gen header? I'm wondering how much harder it would be to tune?

Re: 99-02 guys, post your carb settings/mods/elevation
Sup im new here, but I have been usin this thread to work out the headaches my 00 R6 is causin me. BMC filter and Micron slip on can. Ive got most of the 6-8k shh outta there but still a little at WOT. 500' elevation. Current jet settings are: 155 1-4 and 152 2-3. Factory Pro needles on 5th clip with washer above and below e-clip. Pilots stock 38 and screws 2.5 out. Idle is perfect and pulls hard to 6, misses, then pulls like mad to redline! That last little bit of stumble is gonna kill me...i want it to be smooth all the way through.

FP needles SUK! I had the same issues til I went back to the OE needles with 3 shims (IIRC) under them.
