Ok so I figured I'd go ahead and start a thread to gauge interest for the Phoenix guys in making the trip out to New Mexico (Arroyo Seco) for the Advanced Riders School. We can use this thread for planning as well. YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE A SPEED DEMON TO ATTEND THIS CLASS. Per Roger, the track owner, the class is appropriate for anyone with a minimum 6 months of street or dirt bike experience.
**Disclaimer track days are more addictive then Meth, be prepared to sacrifice all belongings and nonmotorcycle relationships once addicted.
I will most likely take the Friday before off and will leave in the early afternoon, usually takes 5-6 hours to get there depending on how you drive and what you are hauling. I can haul my bike, another bike in my truck or I may be able to borrow a 2 bike trailer from a buddy making 3 bikes.
Where to stay? Well as has been noted you can camp at the track or get a hotel. As I said in the other thread we stay at a hotel about 20 minutes away that cost about 50$ a night before taxes (single rate so you can split this with another rider)
What do I need? A good attitude! other then that Arroyo has gear to loan, but you should plan on bringing your own motorcycle boots, gauntlet style gloves, and a DOT/Snell level helmet. A Gopro mounted on the tail of your bike is priceless and will allow you to check your BP. Don't bring tools, I will bring those and what I don't have Roger will.
***You may crash, it happens, if you cant afford to have you bike out of working order for a few weeks (ie its your only form of transport) you may want to explore the idea of a dedicated track bike before you do a weekend.
How much will it cost me? These are approximate numbers:
GAS 100$
HOTEL 75$
FOOD 50$
TRACK FEES 350$ FOR BOTH DAYS-I know this sounds like a lot, it is, it is also waaaay worth it. For reference California Super Bike school is like 600$/day. Also I think that is old pricing and its cheaper now, also I am going to see if Roger will cut a deal for a group rate.
BOOZ :-) 1$-300$ The first time I crashed I owed my buddies their bar-bill since I crashed a friends bike, I paid a lot for that mistake lmao.
TOTAL ON THE HIGH END IS 600$ Again sound like a lot, but you have 2 months to save. There are approx. 8/9 weeks until that weekend, that means 4 pay periods, save 150/check and your golden. Again it will probably be less, also depending on how many people attend gas could be cheaper as well.
***You will probably get back to PHX late on Sunday, if you work at 4am Monday morning...lol...well get used to being tired
If you are interested add your name to the list and I will ask Roger for a group rate.

I fell that if we have 5 rider at a minimum we should be good.
Should have named the thread Southwest Race School Feb 9-10 or something... So other people from the area down here would see the thread... Just to get numbers up for this school... I'm going to see if I can get my one local rider bud to go... This would be awesome to get a bunch of R6's from the forum out there!

I really want to attend this. I have an Expedition EL 8 passenger with a 4x8 open trailer or a flatbed car hauler to use if we carpool. I can't afford to drive out there by myself in my SUV. So those of you that want to go and don't have a truck quote my reply.
My bike is in need of new tires soon, my gauntlet style gloves are cheapies from 8+ years ago and I don't have racing boots. I just ordered a Gopro 2 for Christmas. Only thing stopping me is not have the loot to make the trip. If the price is at $275, I get gas money for carpooling, and sleep in my truck I'm all good. Let's make it happen!

I've got a spare set of gloves, may have two set's of spare's by then, and possibly a set of spare boots if I can score the Sidi's I want... We'll see how Christmas goes and what money is looking like... Either way, I'll make this event, somehow... Def need a lift out myself... Won't have a trailer, or means to get my ass out there by then... This should be a blast though if I can make it. I've got an easy up, chairs, cooler and all that shit we can all share as well. I usually bring speakers and rent power as well... Jam some tunes in the pits, check our GoPro vids on the laptop overnight over a beer, it's usually a real good time!
Everyone start making plans so we can make this happen...

Great!! If we dont get enough R6 people I will start rounding up Triumph guys too. I have buddy who has a 16 foot enclosed trailer and a diesel truck with a long bed so if he goes we will really set for travel and pitting. We can figure logistics out once we get a head count. I tell yall straight up though, Im too old to sleep in the trailer, I'm getting a hotel room!!! lol
I also will have extra leathers, 2 sets of boots, a pair of gloves, a extra back protector and even some good take-offs with a lot of life left in them. For all that is wholly if you need tires lmk, Adam will testify to their importance at the track, and I hate to see you have a bad time bc of shitty rubber.
I'm in. Wish I had new tires instead of stock qualifiers but they'll have to do. Id be more than happy to chip in on gas for those driving. What do we have to do to prep for track (safety wire oil valve etc.)?
