I recently noticed my chain was pretty loose, so I tightened the tightest part of the chain to about 1.3 inches. I know everyone here says 40mm or approximately 1.57 inches. However, I chose 1.3 inches at the tightest part of the chain because at the loosest part of the chain it is at 2 inches. This seems way too much to me. Like its clanking and slapping around and runs the risk of jumping track. I'm new to motorcycles and this is the first time I've worked on the chain. It is an 05 r6. The adjuster has 4 tic marks to go till the end of the swing arm. Is my chain bad because of the loose spots? Should I stop driving it immediately?
its an 05 r6. 17,000miles (what is the life expectancy of a chain?)
Im not sure if its stock or not. Just by the previous owner, i would think its stock because he upgraded it simply by superficial means. i.e. blinkers, LEDs, smoked screen. So i doubt he did any really upgrades.
Is there a way to tell what it is by looking at it?
I dont want to change the ratio gearing at all. I ride is the street and its plenty aggressive for me.
The only upgrade i can see doing is a 520 conversion. this is the lighter one i believe. If i do this, will i need new front and rear sprockets?
