Self-polish stator cover?

Hello all, I'm new to this forum as this is my first bike (05 r6 raven). I purchased my bike with some scratches on the stator cover. It is getting serviced now and having that gasket replaced but I was wondering if I can polish (with a a dremel polishing kit) the cover as I did the crank case cover on my 05 yfz 450. Has anyone done it on an r6? If so pictures?

Re: Self-polish stator cover?

I miss my YFZ450. That quad made me money and still does off my crash video.

You can polish anything aluminum pretty easily.

You dont need to be concerned with the thickness of it, youre not taking that much material off when you're sanding and polishing it.

Also i wouldnt use a dremel polishing kit. Doesnt seem like you're experienced enough and too much speed from the dremel can do more harm than good. Just do some research... Look up how to polish aluminum wheels and apply the same general process

Re: Self-polish stator cover?

Thanks for the replies. And yeah thanks but I am experienced with it as if you read I've done it before. What I failed to mention was on more than on occasion just never this exact bike so better safe than sorry. And the reason I ask the thickness is because the bike has a little rash on the cover so I was trying to gauge how much I can smooth it. I already replaced the gasket so it should be good as new
