I don't think it would be an all at once. People have always been somewhat accepting of compromise....little by little making concessions until they don't realize that they have lost the right. So first they would start with foul and abusive language, followed by offensive language, more strictly regulated, until eventually you can no longer voice a negative opinion about anything.
If tomorrow legislation tried to outlaw/ban/whatever you want to call it, foul or abusive language (for starters)- would you take to the streets with guns and fight or riot, or would you use another method of expressing your anger over the new law?
I understand to an extent the idea behind the right to bear arms for fear of the government, but I just can't imagine the US government (US soldiers/Marines) rolling in somewhere and using military force to re-establish "peace." More importantly, I can't imagine laws being made to prohibit free speech, it is a part of the foundation (I would argue, the entire foundation) of what America was built on, one that I hope we never make any concessions on.
I would say citizens have more rights than ever when it comes to free speech, currently. That could change, maybe it will, but I would hope we as a society don't let that happen and if it does- don't immediately resort to pulling out or guns and having a pissing contest with the US government/military.

Americans have been trading their freedoms and rights for a false sense of security since 9/11.
Take away the guns and they won't be asking you to trade your freedom anymore...they will just take it.

What freedoms and rights have you traded in since 9/11? You've got to go through a metal detector at security? Can't carry your gun on the plane?
I'm really trying to come up with a right that I have given up since 9/11 that doesn't improve security, especially at airports. Maybe I just live a simple life and there are rights that I don't even think about since I don't use them like other do.
