And for the record, I don't have a problem with waiting periods, background checks, and keeping automatic weapons out of the hands of the general populace. The way I see it, its okay that we dont have every citizen possessing autos. Do we really need a home invasion robbery by some gangbangers to net them an automatic for drivebys? Do we really need to test your theory that they aren't more deadly? One round might kill just one person, but in a crowded area, I would prefer an armed assailant to possess a semi over an auto. I dont see a need to turbocharge the death potential of a crazy person. And I am fine with the police having the bigger stick. They may need it at some point, and I would prefer that bad guys fear police. And lets be honest, we dont live in a police state. This isnt North Korea or Iran, dude. Would I like to own an auto gun? sure. Do I feel like I need one? Not if every other dumbfcuk out there can have one too. Everyone knows someone that they REALLY dont think should have a bb gun, let alone a fully automatic weapon.

You make a good point when you mention drive-bys.. that's a situation where a fully-automatic weapon could prove much more destructive than a semi.

For shits and giggles id like to be able to say I could take out deer at 500yd. the fields running in front of the chicken coups is 500yd. I wanna be able to target shoot out that far.

For white tail and coyotes I use a Savage .243 with a Bushnell 9x40 scope. Solid punch for deer and coyotes and i'm sure with a properly placed shot you could take down a hog. I've shot up to 250 yards with it. I'm sure if you are a good marksman you can go over 250, I use a .308 for over 250 yards. I've never had a problem with the .243 either, no jams, no miss fire super easy to clean.

Not sure if OP already purchased a rifle but the Tikka T3 series is an amazing line of rifles. I have a Tikka T3 Lite in .308 and I'm convinced it's one of the best bolt rifles for under a grand. It's priced similarly to the R700, but shoots so much better.
