I think you will be fine with the electric tape.

So I looked through a bunch of these pages and couldn't find the answer.
For a 2005 r6, are the 35w bulbs the right ones? I'm somewhat electrically retarded...

yes. 35W H7 single-beam kit (2 bulbs, 2 ballasts)
