I ride a 07 r6 and i can't clutch the bike up. ive been reading alot threads on this but can't find my answer.....
My stats
5'6
110 pounds (i know im light)
I can power up the bike pretty easily. Go 50mph and crack it in first and i get up no problem. But i wanta learn how to clutch. I read how-to's and tons of threads and tried everything. Im running about 25 psi tire pressure. i'll go about all slow speeds between 10-25 just trying the different speeds. clutch and drop it at a very low rpm like 6-7k and ill get tire spin. if i go lower the bike doesn't lunge or anything just takes off faster. Im beginning to think my weight has something to do with it after reading all these threads.
tried 1st and 2nd popping it the clutch and slipping it. Was going to try lowering my tire pressure more to get more traction too. But people say to slip the clutch and pop and drop and i tried all the above and all i get is tire spin or nothing at all.
is your rear tire worn pretty well? flat spotted or anything? i havent had my rear tire spin as much as you are saying, but then again i dont wheelie that much either.
When i first got my 07 and started to slip the clutch or pop it, i would get the same results....spinnage of the rear. I would have to spin like a banshee and hope it would eventually heat that tire enough to hook up and lift the front. The solution to the problem.... new rear rubber (but not stock replacement). As soon as i put on the new rear rubber, problem solved. Dumping it or slipping the clutch both work.
just give the damn thing more gas....its blunt and primative...but i bet it works. you're bike will wheelie. Just give it the gas. now with that said. dont go out and give it full throttle. Work your way up, but one this is for sure. You need more juice
try standing up and bouncing the front end as you let the clutch out. That should do it. Also, you may want to go a little faster... and you know popping it up and dropping it hard right away is bad for your fork seals right? You should practice standup bounce wheelies in second gear with about 18 psi in the rear. When you can do those, clutching up will be much easier because you won't have to worry about what to do when you get it up, you'll be comfortable already. On my 01 I used to run it up to about 8k at WOT and stab the clutch real quick while bouncing the front...then it was off to the races, shifting from second up through the gears and riding the balance point.... but I also lost my license a couple of times. This one time...... well, I will save the stories till you can actually ride wheelies.
make sure your tires are heated up (go for about 5 mi. ride). stand up, staggered (right foot covering rear brake, left foot on passenger peg) make sure about 75% of your weight is on the rear, be rolling at about 5 mph, rev it up to about 6-7K and drop it... let us know what happens.
Stagger your stance, put your left foot on the rear peg. Im a light wieght too and if you dont have enough wait or pressure over the back tire it will spin. Stagger your stance and youll notice a difference.
Hey guys I tried to wheelie my 06 R6 about a month ago ( I have babied the bike since I bought it in October of 08). Anyways, my back tire spun every time. I spent about an hour trying power-ups and clutch ups only for it to spin just like the TC said.
I am about 165 lbs and I am running the stock crappy Dunlop Qualifier tire and I think this is the reason for it spinning.
If it were warmer I bet it would be easier to get her up.
alright finally some updates. I got clutching up now but i can't hold it. Been doing first gear and 2nd gear wheelies but not holding them. Problem was the tire wasn't heated enough and i did not have enough weight in the back. As soon as a shifted my weight farther back and heated up my tire the wheel came up at mid and high rpms without tire spin. All i need now is a rear stickier tire. Any advice on how to hold it now? And by the way thank you guys for all your help. It really helped me and now i cant get off the damn bike again like when i first got it. lol
put your PSI at about 30 when your first gear clutch it goin around 20 to 25 mph and giving it around 6 grand isnt enough but dont open the throttle all the way since you give it six already try 8 and that should do it Just keep practicing and giving a little more gas when you slipp it dont look at your RPM's i know it's hard not to at first because i did the same thing but now i dont anymore
Yeah I upgraded last summer I had a 99 R6 with a michiline pilot p2c tire on the rear to my 07 R6r and the qualifier does not hook up unless it is hot... So i ussualy just do a rolling burn out to heat it up or just start my wheelies at 55 in 2nd and jab the clutch in and out at WOT. A new tire makes life easier for sure. I live in MI so its ussaly cold out, when its hot in the summer its not that much of an issue i just shift as much weight as i can over the back and that does the trick... but if its any kind of cold out... it takes more.
You picked the hardest bike to hold at balance point. There's a reason you don't see 06+ R6's at stunt shows. I have never had a problem with wheelies of course I switched to Pilot Powers about 2 months after getting the bike. Anyways, here is how and the types of wheelies I do:
1st gear sit downs: get going about 15-20 rev it to 10k or so a dump the clutch.
Don't try 1st gear stand ups unless you're really good or you wanna be on your back
2nd gear stand ups: roll between 25-35 mph, grab a handful of throttle, bounce it and dump the clutch. The bike will come up pretty easy so b careful.
3rd gear stand ups (my favorite): get moving anywhere from 55-75mph, grab a handful and then dump the clutch. This type is easier to balance (at least for me). You can control how high the bike is by throttle and rear brake if you're too low, give of more throttle. Feel like you're gonna loop it, apply just a slight bit of pressure to the rear brake. I have a couple of short video clips if you're interested
