So the time has come for me to HAVE to make some mods for comfort. My knees and wrists are destroyed from riding BMX and the military. I love my R6 but I can't ride it for lo ger than an hour without being in excruciating pain anymore. I'm looking at either the apex adjustable clip ons or the lsl handlebar conversion kit... just looking for opinions on each...
I know the shit talking will come that I should get a different bike, but I can't afford to so lets not even go down that road. I've gotta make the R6 work, it's my only option...
I just installed a set of Vortex rear sets and a pair of the Apex 3 inch adjustable clip ons a few weeks ago. I have to say these are the best mods I have ever done to my bike or any I have ever owned!
The clip ons have so much adjustability it is insane! It made me be able to make my rides more comfortable and got rid of the pain I was experiencing in my shoulders.
The clip ons unfortunately cannot be adjusted all the way up do to clearance issues with the upper fairing. I was still able the raise them up about two inches and change the angle up.
The one item you will definately need to upgrade for the install is longer front brake lines. I managed to make all the other cables and wires work.
I plan on making a write up/ how to on the in the near future
You really shouldn't have any weight on your wrists and should have a loose grip on the bars, like you're holding an egg. My back, shoulders, and wrists used to kill me when I started riding because I was too tense and had too much pressure on the bars. Grip more with your legs on the tank, and use your back and abs for more support. When trying to get used to riding with proper weight on the bars, every now and then flap your arms like a chicken. Sounds insane, but it's a nice little reminder every now and then to stay light.
Just my .02, might be worth trying to change your posture before you go drop money on parts :cheers
You will need new cables for clutch and throttle. Most likely custom length ones. Motion pro can hook that up for you. Just an FYI
Good luck!
