Mods to a FZR600. Any ideas?

I have a '95 FZR600 Genesis and I need to know some good modification ideas. I'm not into changing the fairings around the engine or changing the color scheme. I thought about changing the rear of the bike up a bit, looks chunky and outdated. Also gonna get some reflective tape to put on my rims. Any other ideas? post some related pictures of your thoughts if you can.

520 chain kit with steeper gearing for more accelleration.
Good tires, get some decent brake pads on the bike (EBC HH or Ferodo ST). Then just enjoy riding it man. Don't throw a ton of $ at it.
This. I tried a -1 in the front before I settled on a +5 in the rear instead. Finally had good pep. And the EBC HHs for braking.

I'd sell it and buy a clean used newer 600.
This. Too hard to find good parts for the old Fizzer.

Two mods that I did to my 92 that made the biggest difference were an Ohlins rear shock and tank grips...had Tech Spechs on my FZR but run (and prefer for my style of riding) Stomp Grips now on my R6.
If you're looking, there was a greater availability of Fox shocks for the Fizzer.

Between the damper rod forks, the steel frame and the overall age of the bike, I wouldn't spend much money on the bike. You can mod the crap out of the stock body though. First and second gen R1 tail lights are plug-n-play, the R6/R1 axial mount calipers work, the FZR 400/FZ1 aluminum torque arm works, most other things will require time and/or money to either source or fabricate.
Good luck.

Bigger carbs, flatslide carbs, port and polish the head, add a decent exhaust.... At that point though, I'd sell it and buy a clean used newer 600.

Some of the mods I did to my 1998 FZR 600 were, a side mounted steering damper, Yoshi slip on, Stainless lines and added an aftermarket front brake reservoir/lever assembly so I could adjust the lever LOP. That last mod and the brake lines made a world of difference. The forks were horribly undersprung for me but I never did swap them though i should have.

A free mod you can do it remove the two ~1" thick rubber bushings/spacers from the tail light lens assembly. It will move the lens in that much closer for a cleaner look. Looks much nicer, especially with the factory seat cowl.

Wish I had digital pics of it but only photo's.

Kind of a ricer mod but I found some 2" diameter aluminium ducting for VW's I think (engine heater hose). It makes the intake tubes on the FZR look like the intake tubes from the old ZX750's from the early 90's that dumped down into the top of the gas tank.

Oh and get a fender eliminator.

Chad, how easy is it to remove those rubber spacers? I don't like them and I think it would make my bike look a lot better with it closer to the cowl. The forks on mine are already aftermarket and have a different setting than the stock forks for the FZR. Gonna take a look at my rear signals today.... Im a NOOB at this stuff!! :dunce:

I did the tail light "mod" too. Did not make a huge difference but good enough for a free change. :laugh

I actually have pictures too!

Not sure how different your year is from my old 92... Or if there is any difference.

My first bike was a '93 FZR600. They're great bikes to start out with.....cheap, pretty reliable, and pretty good power. They're actually pretty torquey engines for an inline four. The weak point on them would be the clutch, so don't be too hard on it. I put some sticky Pirellis on mine.....I replaced the rear tire with a 150 instead of the stock 140. They're nimble bikes too, but they do look a little dated. You can take a '98-2000 R6 tail and undertail section and with some cutting you can graft it onto the FZR tail. It's a GREAT looking modification when done right. Or, if you don't mind not having the passenger's seat you can get the Airtech fiberglass R1 replica tail that simply bolts right onto the FZR tail. I used a 1991-1992 FZR600 front end with the single headlight rather than the two round ones. I think it looks more streamlined and modern. I added a European FZR headlight that had twin projector lenses in it. It looked really cool! I got it off ebay from overseas.....Great Britain I believe. Here's a great link that helped me do my R6 tail conversion:

As far as performance goes, I'd say K&N filter, Vance and Hines Power Pak (if you can find one), and a full exhaust system (which you'll have to rejet the carburetors for). If you can locate a Fox twin clicker rear shock, that'd be good too.

I'm sure I'm missing some stuff since I sold the bike about 5 years ago. If you go on www.fzrarchives.com there are lots of helpful hints and knowledgeable members that can point you in the right direction. If you look at my avatar you'll see my '93 FZR600 all done up in Yamaha blue. It was a very fun first bike and I missed it so I bought a FZR1000 in addition to my R6, dual sport and supermoto Hondas. Good luck with it!

I did a write up on updating the tail section of my fzr on the www.customfighters.com forum. Just search for posts by me under the same username. Then again you need a 02 gsxr subframe and tail section. I was able to cut 13 lbs 12ozs and go to a lighter battery with the fabrication. It all depends on how deep you want to go.

Take care of that fzr, I sure miss mine, some one decided they needed more than I did. but then again that led to my R6 and this forum.
