A good fight card and some decent matches. That Bj Penn vs Diego Sanchez fight should go down as the best fight in UFC history! Sanchez's stand up is top notch and he damn near couldn't land a shot. I'd say he didn't he even inflict any damage to Penn at all. Penn embarrassed that dude for 4 or 5 rounds.

I dont think you can call such a one sided fight the "best UFC fight in history" though.

BJ Penn > Diego Sanchez.....

diego got made a fool of...

he landed a total of maybe 4 shots on BJ... 2 of which came from a push off the fence dirty boxingish.

Penn looked the best hes ever looked and i dont see ANYONE at 155 that can match up to him.

BJ Penn did the exact same thing GSP did to him, he dominated Sanchez. Sanchez is a monster, stayed in the ring after the fight and basically took the beating like a man. But they dont call Penn the Prodigy for nothing. The fight itself was by no means the best fight of any era, it was good.

I wouldn't even rank that in the top 10 MMA bouts of the year. Too one sided and there's a whole lot of talent outside the UFC, mind you.

Sanchez stand up is far from top notch. The way he runs behind his punches doesn't generate a lot of power, he pushes his punches and they're nothing more than arm punches. They're fast though. Not fast enough for BJs head movement

I've thought for a long time Shinya Aoki will be the only real contender but even he wont be able to handle BJs stand up... and you'll never see that fight in the UFC. Eddie Alvarez would be entertaining as hell too.

I understand it was onesided but the display of skill by BJ was more impressive than the fighters I've seen lately. I think he has an intresting blend of defense and offense. So well that you don't know when he's on the offense sometimes. He takes the Jiu Jitsu mentality to stand-up. In Jitz you can be in trouble and not always know it. Swearing the whole time that you got it bagged because your the aggressor(noobz mindset) etc.. When the whole time dude has you pegged and is walking you into his trap. Diego Sanchez is no bum by any stretch of the imagination.

If you've been watching a while> check out his fight against Roger Huerta. He is usually able to put together some nasty combos. To neutralize someone with many different stand up skill sets is an awesome display of skill.

1. I said best fight in UFC history! Not MMA as a whole.

2. Sanchez stand up is beyond decent. See his match with Roger Huerta another great fight. Most of his mistakes came from all that bravado and anger meditation sh!t he did pre-firght. Way to stiff and way over the top! He will look back at this and fill like a gay bullfighter in Spain!


I'm impressed with his ability to neutralize dudes offense. I mean like he was dealing with a child. It says a ton about what level he's on as a fighter. As far as that kick to the dome... I called that when he went for a leg kick earlier. I told everyone in the room that was a dry run for a headshot later.
