does anyone here have an LG 55lh40 lcd tv? if you do, what do you think about it?
i'm thinking about picking one up tomorrow and can't decide between it or the Samsung LN52B550 which is 3" smaller but is about the same price and specs.
I've seen a couple of electronics review sites and they all seem to rate the LG's as one of the best tv's but they also rate the Samsung highly.
i have a samsung that i bought a couple years ago and am not impressed with it... it has never been right since day one. it is a DLP and looks like crap with wavy red and blue lines across the screen since the day i bought it.
I've come to find after TONS of research on home theater that specs are a good baseline, but seeing the TV's in action are a lot better basis. Take Vizio for example. They post up some pretty impressive specs, but when put next to the competition they get outshined almost everytime. What will you be using this TV mainly for. Television, sports, Movies, Gaming...???
mostly be using it for television and gaming...really a little bit of everything since it will be replacing the samsung in the living room.
so the LG isn't a good tv?
There are a lot of samsung's in their top picks. cnet does a good job of reviewing electronics accurately. I personally went with a Samsung plasma when I bought my TV. I am more into movies though and love the smoothness and deep blacks that a plasma offer over LCD. Plus you get NONE of that digital blur in fast motion scenes. A lot of people are saying that plasma is a dying technology, and it is. Not because of it being inferior...but because the huge rush towards new technology and energy efficiency. And right now, LCD is just that. Lets not even start on LED (lcd) tv's.
the problem with getting a plasma is that the room has a large floor to ceiling window that lets in alot of light and i don't want to have to shut it just to watch the tv.
i'm looking for a 55" with around $1600 to spend, what would be your choice?
That's pushing it to get a really nice tv in that size at that price range. If you could go down to a 52 in that same range it opens WAY more options. Any of the Samsung LN series are really good tv's. Don't worry about the window much. Even my plasma doesn't do too bad with the blinds open. LCD's definitely do a better job of not reflecting light though.
My choice in a 55 is...
Samsung LN55B650 It's said to have slight lighting issues, but shouldn't affect you too much. That's $1800 though. Like I said the same one in a 52" is $1300
We have this bar close to where I live that I frequent. They have two Large brand new Samsungs up on the wall. Hands down BEST picture I have seen in a TV. I'll have to ask them what model it is next time I'm up there.
dude, between 2.7 and 5ms refresh rate, your eyes won't be able to tell the difference. I have the samsung LN52b610. most amazing TV i've owned. I used to be a sharp aquos guy, but the samsungs are amazing
