psi for rear tire?

i just got a rear tire put on today and it has 36 psi in it. just wondering if thats a good amount. i only ask because it took the fricken tech 35 min just to mount and balance the tire. he had to let the air out twice and fiddle with the wieghts 10 times like it was his first time changing a tire. i never checked the preasure on the stock tire so i have no idea how much is normal. the new tire is a metzeler 190/50/17

36-38 psi is fine for the road. When on the track I drop the rear to 24-26psi.

i usually run 34psi. but that tire size doesnt sound like a stock size. i thought stock size was 185/55R17? oh well if im not mistaken it should be the same height as stock.

R6IAN are you on an R6? The stock size is 180/55/17. Big tire envy isn't gonna help when your in the twisties. I have a buddy who dropped his a couple of times in the twisties because the 190 messed with his handling.

BTW run 34-36 on the street.

Only thing is everything on the bike, suspension geometry to the profile of the front tire is assuming 180 rear tire. If you don't like to haul ass through the twisties and all you do is cruise and stunt, then big tire envy is just fine.

For example, look at the new Speed Triple it's a 1050cc with 80lb of torque and it still uses a 180 rear for handling.

the problem i have is i live an hour from work and 45 min of my ride is on the interstate. my rear tire was wearing realfast in the middle so the shop said this tire would be better for me. that said, they never mentioned it would affect my cornering at all. i did mention it was a little wider but they said it wouldnt be a problem because its only mm's bigger.

everyone should check there air pressure when the weather turns cold. I check the air in our 18 wheelers every two wks. When the weather turns cold it can change as much as 10-20psi.

I don't know how a wider tire will last longer than a smaller tire. The thing that matters most to tire life is, How soft is the compound and How do you ride it?

If you do that many miles on the highway even a sport touring tire is going to wear out in middle. Especially if you like burnouts, wheelies and riding real fast. The farther you have the throttle open the more power is going to the rear wheel the faster its gonna.

I run 26 PSI in both my tires on the street.
It grabs a little better in the corners, and is a little more stable in wheelie mode.
