Cycling Thread

Well I did a quick search and didn't find really what I was looking for (at least not relevant within the last 2 years)

So I'd like this thread to be about advice/reviews/suggestions on parts and cycling gear (including apparel) as well as maybe just a place to tell cool stories about recent rides - MTB is welcome as well!!!

I just picked up road bikes for myself and the wife and I am STOKED about them! We've wanted to for awhile but I just didn't want to drop the coin; the more I read/heard about pro riders cycling though, the more I wanted to have at it. The roads around me suck to ride the R6 on, but they'll make it pretty easy to put in a long ride on a cycle I think.

The wife's new bike

And mine

First things on the order are seat(s) - the Bontrager on my bike is BRUTAL. I'd like to hear some suggestions on seats/saddles or anything else you've found that eases the pain (I'm trying Anal-Eeze later).
Then we both need bottle holders and shorts and jerseys - the wife says she is ok without but I definitely don't have the best shorts to ride in.

Any apparel I should look for or avoid? Good places to purchase?

Happy trails!

Re: Cycling Thread

I wouldn't consider myself a cyclist. But I did ride my bike across the entire state of Iowa on a bet. Does that count?

It's called Ragbrai and it was one hell of a time. If I could take more time off work, I would do it again.

it'll take a couple rides to get comfy. also, get some padded shorts and then take the bike into the local shop to get fitted. you'll be amazed what a couple little tweaks can do. it will not only save your sac but your knees as well. if you get any numbness in the crotch area, stop. you could do some permanent damage

I just got a fixed gear bike, made by cane creek. And ive wrecked it more than my 6.Fixed gear bikes do suck but its a cool conversation item when using it
as a pit bike at track days.
