Troubleshooting help

I have a 2000 R6 with 17,000 miles. Recently it has been stalling out on me randomly. Its been happening while riding, the bike suddenly has no power. It just dies. Coast to a stop, has trouble starting the first few times and then it starts right back up and will run great until yet again minutes or days later it randomly does it again.

I have replaced the air filter (K&N), the fuel filter (autozone generic), done an oil and oil filter change (mobile with k&n filter), changed gas, run sea foam through it, run carb cleaner through it, wiggled on loose wires (kill switch and kickstand switch). I have no idea what else to look for.....

suggestions?

PS- bike has leo vince sbk slip on exhaust. not sure about other modifications the previous owner may have done...

try the fuse box
sounds like you could have a short somewhere in the wiring maybe?

Have u checked up on the charging system? Maybe when the rectifier gets hot it's limiting the voltage. It's very common for the old bikes to have charging system issues

Illernoise: I'll dig around the fuse box and start checking the wiring for any breaks/frays/grounds etc.

ChiefSmokeDawg: How would you suggest I go about checking the rectifier? Get the bike warmed up and put a volt meter someplace? I have the service manual but I don't see anything in regards to testing the working condition of the rectifier...(doesn't mean its not in there though)

Illernoise: I checked all the wiring under the seat and popped open the fuse block. To my suprise the "head" fuse wasn't blow, but had a really loose connection and looked somewhat melted. Replaced that and we will see if my problem continues. (Hopefully not as I have a gut feeling this is it.)

ChiefSmokeDawg: I checked the wiring and connector on the rectifier because I had heard a lot about that melting, everything looked good.

well the problem came back. this time though when it happened the throttle made a pop, and I was able to fix it for sure. turns out my random stalling issues were an improperly adjusted throttle cable coupled with the unit the kill switch is located on being mounted loosely. Glad this problem is FIXED!!

so. i thought a while ago that i had fixed my problem. throttle cables didn't do it. the problem still came back...

only modifications i can see are k&n air filter I put on, and leo vince slip on that PO did.

The good: Runs great from idle and even when cruising until the bike gets real warmed up...

Now the Problem: after the bike gets warmed up, it no longer likes to run so smooth under load. i will be cruising along and all of a sudden have no power. if i try to give it more throttle it will die right out. sometimes putting the choke on helps. the problem seems to be only after the bike has warmed up. also on a side note, when decelerating while in gear there is a lot of exhaust popping.

what i've done: run carb cleaner and engine cleaners through gas. run higher octane gas. checked fuses. new air filter. new fuel filter. new spark plugs (the old ones were dark and somewhat wet when pulled.) the carbs have come off, been completely torn down and cleaned (they weren't that dirty or gummed up at all but the choke was not closing all the way on cyl 1). the mixture screws were at 2 3/4 before the clean, after the clean i tried 3 turns out and 2 1/2 turns out with no success. problem still persists.

im waiting on a carb sync tool to come in so i can synch them up as we speak but right now i'm pretty stumped. anyone have any suggestions? im also thinking of rejetting but i don't want to tear the carbs down again so soon...
