Hey guys I have a stock 08 R6 shock with Traxxion valving but I need a spring for my weight since Im about 50lbs heavier than the previous owner.
I looked at the racetech site and it tells me a 10.7-105N is what I need but I have heard that the site is not accurate.
How I make sure on what I need? Also I see there are some brands that are in lbs/in how do I convert it back and forth?
Another question: Can I replace the spring with out a spring compression tool? I heard some guys saying you can do it with zipties.
I also have a Ohlins YA606 that I need to replace the spring (same question for this).
I see on ebay springs for sale but how do I know how to buy one?
OK so Im borrowing a compressor tool.
Now Im looking about springs.
I understand I call either racetech or ohlins but I want to buy some hyperco springa that are on ebay new.

Great, then determine the correct rate and use online conversion tools to get the rate converted into the units you need for these hyperco springs
with race tech u need a new preload adjuster to fit on the stock shock, i just found k-tech, n i think that spring is a direct replacement, but i only found that company recently and it think its in europe, so maybe with the price of shipping n the over priced spring u can just get it all from race tech.... i was also looking for a spring but dont have the money for the preload adjuster so im just gonna deal with it for now, its just over sprung for me, im too light so its not that bad
the guys at penske and racetech both told me the stock rear springs on the R6 are good enough for a 250 lb rider. the springs they use for most guys are way lighter than the stock spring.
the front fork springs are the ones you need to change the most(stronger)
Are all the Shocks from 06-12 all sprung the same from the factory. I would like a higher spring rate than what is on my 2010 without going through the trouble of a revale/respring. If there was a particular year that came with a higher spring rate from the factory I might just find one used I could try.
All R6'S after 06 are sprung stiff on the rear (1.03) and soft at the front (0.92).
Depending on valving in the shock you would need a substantial amount of mass to need a firmer rear spring than this. Most of the time softer is the way to go.
Online spring calculators are just a guide and not the golden rule as the same weight riders can have vastly different spring requirements from riding style alone. This makes it quite difficult if you are buying a spring. Best suggestion is to make contact with someone local that does suspension and work with them. This way you work in a focused direction rather than trying different suggestions that are made without all the facts.

+1 on finding someone local to work with. If my shop has the spring I'm looking for in stock they'll let me swap with whatever spring I have for free (or cost of labor if they're physically swapping it out for me).
