QR6's '07 Bike Build from Street to Track (no longer budget)

Okay, I've decided I'm far enough into tear down to start a thread, but let me give a 'lil history on me first. This is my 2nd bike ever, but I'm still a newb (less than 1 year ride time total) since I didn't own my first bike for more than 6 months. That 1st bike happen to be a '01 Ducati 748 that I bought & sold in 2003. My dream bike at the time, but I couldn't afford the maintenance or insurance at the time. So it had to go. Alright, moving on 9 years later. My wife finally agrees to let me buy a bike. At first I thought only a 2012 CBR1000rr would do. Then I got realistic and asked my self what is my all time favorite bike right now? That's when I started looking for 06-07 R6's. I wanted a Raven only, but came across this 2007 Charcoal (6700mi) & was sold. Purchased April 2, 2012 and it had just enough upgrades that I didn't feel like I was starting from scratch. DID 520 chain, Supersprox Sprocket, Michelin Power Pures, HID's, frame sliders, flush mount front signals, fender eliminator, removed reflectors/stickers & ASV gold clutch/brake levers. Being married with 5 kids, I was lucky enough just to get the bike, so upgrading it was going to be tough. Let me first say I have expensive taste when it comes to modifying stuff, but it's just not in the budget for this build. Enough of the boring stuff! Just remember, this is a budget build and expensive aftermarket goodies will come in time (hopefully). I'm making the bike more aesthetically pleasing to my eyes at this time. The Charcoal looks awesome, but it has to go...

As I bought her 4/2/12:

Re: QR6's '07 Budget Bike Build (Street)

First on the list to go ASAP was the stock silencer! What to do? I can't afford that TaylorMade full exhaust or any other full exhaust for that matter, so I bought a Hotbodies slip-on from eBay. Chrome sucks, so I painted it with rattle can BBQ paint.

Not sure if you notice the broken foot peg? I didn't when I bought the bike, so back to eBay I go. Anodized black pegs replace the stockers.

Now I'm trying to learn more about R6's and find this great forum. I have high/low HID's, but my center light is stock. How do I change that? I find my answer right here and a place to purchase the bulb (superbrightleds.com).

My main hobby is Aircooled VW's. I have a '58 Karmann Ghia coupe the is getting a full resto and my '59 Euro Bug that is just a driver. Here's the R6 & '59 in the garage.

Re: QR6's '07 Budget Bike Build (Street)

I didn't like the fender eliminator that was on the bike, so I started looking for a solution. I moved it down further using the factory holes and clips and went to eBay for some nice led license plate lights. Much better and haven't got pulled over (yet).

If you notice in this picture the stock windscreen was painted flat black by the previous owner and had tape adhesive on it. Back to eBay for a cheap replacement.

Re: QR6's '07 Budget Bike Build (Street)

I started school (5/24/12) for Autobody & Paint Refinishing and have been moving along pretty good in the class. I've decided I wanted to do a full color change on my bike as my first project. I really wanted to do white and I still love the look, but it has gotten pretty popular. I've decided on a different color and the base paint was donated to me (free), but I'm not going to disclose the color yet. I will just post pictures when that time comes. I will be doing a full color change on the wheels. Painted, not powder coat since I'm still on the budget (remember).

How she looks now. This is my first time working on a motorcycle. The internet is so helpful.

Right before tear down

This is when I figured out that the bike has a very dirty K&N filter.

Powdercoat the rearsets. Would look so much cleaner!
