cam chain tensioner

Quick note to everyone rebuilding/replacing cams or engines. After the rebuild i *assumed* that you could put the tensioner back in. Follow the manual...lol...I chewed through a chain guide. Haven't broke the engine in yet so I'm hoping that the residual plastic should wash into the pan before i need to change the oil after the rebuild.

Sounds like he took the cct out then when he put it back in, somehow it ate the chain guide

bingo.

rebuilt the engine
timed the cams
re-installed the tensioner.
You have to put a little clip on a peg on the tensioner piston:

Didn't do this properly

I'm assuming the residual pressure in the tensioner was too much and as a result my plastic guide on the tensioner got ate to shit.

Like i stated earlier, haven't properly broke the engine in yet, so I'm hoping the plastic particles will wash into the pan. Once I change oil after break-in I'll flush it out from the head and get the rest out.

Ah yes. I see now.

You know, I really wish someone would do a real good write up on shimming valves, and cct install.

What that has to do with anything, I don't know.

Re: cam chain tensioner

to get back on subject

Installed the tensioner per factory spec. Now I think i just need to get a new mechanical....When its installed per the manual, you can hear quite a bit of chatter and it doesn't run the greatest. When i back the mounting bolts out a bit to click it down tighter, its too tight (you can hear a whiring noise when cranking) but it runs great and there's no chatter.
