Short story: This is winterization season 4 for me and it has always been just my bike parked in my garage. Now I'm thinking about helping out a close friend who owns a zx6r but not a garage. What's your take on this? He has theft coverage on his insurance.
Am I bound to get liable in the case if someone from my family leaves the garage door open and his bike gets stolen? How does this work?
Sounds like you want to set your buddies bike up to get stolen... If he's got coverage, what's the problem? Insurance covers the theft... If you get caught for being involved, were his bike to get stolen, and yours was still sitting in the garage, you deserve it...
Just let him throw it in your garage. No big deal
You're not liable.

I would have him sign something that says your not liable for any damage or loss to the bike since ur are not charging him storage fees I think it's a good compromise that in the event something happens u guys can remain friends.
Example: god forbid your house goes up in flames or gets flooded but you home owners/renters insurance will probably not cover his or your bike so u would both be assed out. It could happen! CYA friend or not it's gonna come down to him saying he let u borrow it and you damaged it. U will end up on judge Judy or Mathis or who ever the tv judge is in your area lol

Helping a buddy out=GOOD
Setting a buddy up=BAD

That's silly.
Where I come from, We don't set up friends. Just trying to help him out.

Thanks! That's what I might just end up doing.

You bring a good point to the table. I'm thinking perhaps a witnessed by and signed by both letter? Thanks man.

Man if you are that good of friends I don't see why you can't just throw it in the corner right beside yours.
You're right, if it was my own place, I wouldn't even give it a second thought. All out for friends, always!
BUT
I'm a student and stay at home with fam. My bike insurance and stuff is paid off by my parents so I think I, at least, owe it to them to do a bit of research on consequences of doing this. Thanks!
