The Austrian bike manufacturer certainly did arouse a lot of curiosity over their new concept model which they referred to as the ‘beast.’ First posting on its official blog an audio sample of the “beast” “growling” and later posting some teaser images of the concept bike. The covers have now finally been taken off of the KTM concept bike and we must say that is an extraordinary looking bike. The KTM naked high displacement concept is the 1290 Super Duke R Prototype and it is one of the most radical designs seen in recent times, particularly the bold new, ‘crouched’ look. The 1290 Super Duke R Prototype is now being displayed at the 2012 EICMA Show in Milan, Italy.
KTM has not yet revealed the exact displacement of the 1290 Super Duke R Prototype and nor has it mentioned anything about the power and torque output of the new prototype bike. It is however, expected to be really high, perhaps nearing 200 hp. The 1290 Super Duke prototype engine is a variation of the RC8R’s 1195cc V-Twin engine with features such as ride-by-wire throttle, Anti-lock Braking System and traction control, along with the option of turning electronic aids off for some mad riding. Other features that are seen include chrome molybdenum steel trellis frame, single-sided aluminum swing arm, WP suspension, Brembo racing calipers and aluminum wheels.
This nearly ready 1290 Super Duke prototype is expected to be brought into production sometime next year and will be top of the line model, that will also include a full range of naked bikes.
Also to be noted from the images is KTM’s tasteful use of worn tires on the display models.
Apart from the prototype Duke, KTM has also brought out the highly anticipated 2013 KTM 390 Duke naked bike, which will also see production starting from next year.
