2009 vs 2012. Difference : Yamaha R6 : R6 Forum

Its been a while I have been on here so I have been out of the loop for exactly 1 yr. My 2009 is gone and I'm getting a brand new 2012 r6(blue). I know they are the same bike. Other than the color and extension of the exhaust is there anything different with the performance? Ecu, suspension, what's the difference of the power range(low, mid, top end)?

All the parts are 100% interchangeable... The ECU was mapped differently for "more power" on the newer bikes, and that's the extent of the changes to my knowledge. I think the forks on the newer bikes MAY have gotten shorter, but don't quote me on that.

The ECU gives a little faster response on the newer models but otherwise it's the same.

If you can, maybe wait. I think its pointless to pay so much for for a 2012 in comparison to a 08 for just a slight ecu tune and an exhaust. maybe next year is the year for Yamaha to revamp the r6
