Laptop Battery Question
Question:
Will a battery pack that has a charge of 16.65v fry a laptop or any of the circuits in the battery pack if the stock battery has a rating of 14.7v?
Background:
I have rebuilt a Dell 14.7; 28Wh Li-Ion battery pack. The stock pack had (4) ~1800mah 18650 batteries if my calculations were correct. I replaced them with (4) 3100mah NCR18650A batteries and pre-charged them. The charger charged them to 4.18v each giving me a total of 16.7v but I've been trying to use some of the juice by charging my phone with them so a couple are down to 4.15v currently.
Should I keep using up juice until they are down to 3.7v each? Or is it not a big deal and the voltage regulator (I would assume there is one) on the PCB that attaches to the batteries inside the pack would just have to work a little harder for a little bit on the first use of the laptop? I haven't soldered the batteries together yet and I've only tinned the terminals so I can do whatever with them still.
