2005 r6 failed me today - need help

Hey guys..

I went out with my friends today for a nice ride because the weather called for it.

Not long into my ride my engine shuts off.. I turn it back on and it sounds really nasty(like a really old Harley) If I don't keep the rpms up it will stall.
I had to drive it home slowly.. it barely had any power... and my bike was smelling like oil.

Does this mean I have to buy 4 new coils and 4 new spark plugs?(very sad because I had 100 repairs to do this year on my home/car/and bike) and now another problem... smh


Bike has close to 40k miles on it.

If it is them, im not even going to bother replacing a single one.. I am going to replace all 4.

there was a recall on coils not sure if the oh 5's had it but my oh 3 did. One would hope that's it. But that's a ton of miles. I've got 23k on one of mine and it has started to lose power. At 40 it may be time to freshin up the 6.

the '05 did not have the recall on coils. check ur headers by spraying water on them that should give u an idea if u have a dead cylinder. look for the one where the water doesnt evaporate right away, that would be ur culprit

Does it sound like metal clanking. Burned oil smell dosent sound good.

Could be the CCT or the engine may have been at the end of its life. Either do the water on headers trick as mentioned before or even better would be a compression/leak down check.

ok Ill try the trick tomorrow..

I have a hard time believing my engine is at the end of its life.. I rode it home 3 miles... and the engine only had 40k on it.. These engine should easily last 100k.

I take good care of my bike. Best fluids, and regular maintenance.

**I just want to make sure its the coils/plugs before I start spending $300 on all that stuff. I may order a CCT as well just to be sure because at this mileage it wouldn't hurt to replace. (I just don't know how to use the manual ones)

since my bike sounds pretty bad and it shuts off if I don't keep the RPMS up.. should I even turn on the bike long enough for my headers to get warm.. to do that test...??
