Ohlins Damper Question --- top mount type

I just bought a New Ohlins damper for my 2002 R6. My question/concer is the steering stem nut. In the direction's it refers to "use the nut provided" but there was no nut. Did i get jacked or am i supposed to reuse the stocker?

Im not sure what to think because in the "note" paragraph for,the above, it also says to NOT use the washer that was with the nut. Suggesting the stock one.

Using the stock nut; im only able to enguage 3/4's of the threads on the nut. Is this enough? Thanks for all replays!!

side note: can someone send me the thread link for a "how to post pics". I looked and had no luck.

I'm not sure if the mounting hardware for the '02 is anything like the '06, but I know the '06 definitely does not use the stock steering stem nut.

The mounting hardware with the Ohlins kit (for the '06), has it's own steering stem nut built into the piece that connects to the front tank bolt to hold the bracket for the damper itself.

Again, the '02 mounting hardware could be completely different, so this may not be very useful, but here's a pic in case it helps at all:

Do you have an actual Ohlins kit (includes the Ohlins mounting hardware), or an Ohlins damper with aftermarket mounting hardware? The Ohlins kit should have very clear instructions on which stock hardware to keep and where to use the Ohlins components.

Hey thanks for the response.

It's similar but too different to tell if i should have had a nut. Im going to go back into Cycle Gear today and see WTF's up. The nut they provided for you was it just slimmer? still aluminum right?

Not exactly - The steering stem nut that was on there originally was open at the top, so you could actually see into the steering stem with it on. The Ohlins mounting hardware doesn't include an actual stand-alone nut at all - It's a bit tricky to see in the picture, but if you look under the damper where the steer stem is, you'll see the nut from the Ohlins mounting piece. But it's actually all one piece with that entire mounting bracket behind it. The nut the tightens over the steering stem is set into a ball-bearing swivel, which is all one piece with the mounting bracket the mounts to the tank bolt in the front and the swivel clamp for the damper (if that makes sense at all? )

I'd definitely check with the people you bought it from first. Thats one part of the bike that I wouldn't even want to take the chance of something going wrong with.

Good luck with it - I don't know that I can be of much help, but if you have any questions, just give me a holler and I'll do my best.
