R1 vs R6 at a big track...

Well, per the request of several members, R6 vs R1 at the same track. I've been saying that I think the R6 will be more than able to keep up with the literbikes on a big track... well.. I may be wrong..sort of..

Cal speedway is the setting, there's a long front straight that goes way up on the banking, and a long back straight.. there are 21 turns so the R6 does get a good opportunity to make up ground..

I'm an advanced rider, not a racer, but a track day addict to be sure..This is the 3rd track day on the R6, and I'm taking a pretty much stock R6 ...It has 520 stock gearing, Track body work, track tires, ss brake lines..that's all. Verses 2004 R1, SS Brakelines, PCIII, gytr filter, Vstacks, Graves system, rears sets, quickshifter, race slicks..

My best time on the R1 was a 1:41.86. The best I could do on the R6, a 1:44.01... Just over 2 seconds...

So where I lost time, was not being able to get past the liter bikes on the front straight.. Ultimately I'd catch up, but then they'd pull several bike lenghts on the front and park it in the first turn... If I got a clear track, I might be able to pull closer to the R1 time, and I think as I get used to the bike, I'll gain more confidence in passing.. But for sure, the R1 can cover some riding mistakes.. You have the wrong gear coming out of a corner on the R1, no big, add gas, on the 6, you lose a spot..

I'll keep posting updates, I do think I'll get into the 30's on the R6, I just don't know when...

PS My buddy had better luck.. His best Fontucky time was a 1:47 on the R1.. He pulled a 1:45 on the R6 his second session...

PS The R6 does also have the GRP dampener.. Works awesome! Turn 10 11 there's a pretty good slap/headshake bump, rock solid with the GPR, set on 5.

I'd pick the R6 over an R1 at the Willow any day! Heck I'd even pick a TZ250 over a R1 at that track!
