I need Advice. Is it worth getting a slip-on for my 06? : Yamaha R6 : R6 Forum

I have had my 06 R6 for a couple months and I love it. I haven't changed anything on the bike cause I think it's fine just the way it is. I have owned 11 other bikes to date and I had an 01 R1 before this one. I know all about tuning issues and having to modify your setup when you remove an EX-Up valve. My 01 R1 lost major low end when I took the valve off, so I had to add a timing advancer and jet the carbs (Fuel injection started in 02) to get it where I wanted it.

My question is this. Do you loose noticable midrange, which is already soft, on the R6 if you unhook your exhaust valve? Every slip-on made for the bike requires it's removal and I am not sure that's a good idea. I know you leave the servo hooked up to the computer so that there is no error code, but what does it do for the midrange? Dyno charts are great and all, but some are false because they have a powercommander hooked up or it's equal for the results. Any help would be great.

not worth a slip on, not really that much louder, and like 0 performance gains. I undid my xup and noticed minimal diffrence. A full exhaust is the way to go

Well, i would normally suggest a full exhaust... however, I put on a GYTR CF Slip-on... and now I want to sell it... to you. Sooo, If I were you, I'd by my Slip on so that I can put the money toward an Akro Full exhaust and pcIII...

I just realized the title for my account since I am new here. Just wanted to make it clear that my R6 doesn't "Eat Me" I do the bitting.

Yeah I would go full system, but I know I will have to buy a powercommander or something equal to it. Otherwise the computer won't know to advance the timing at the right position of the throttle. The fly-by-wire throttle system requires ALL sensors to be working properly.

I've seen tons of dynos done on the 06 R6 with slip ons. It min. to no gain in performance. It ranges from .5hp to 1.5hp at most. Depending on the Dyno you're using.

I would save up some money and buy a full system if you're looking for a good gain in mid range. PCIII and filter will also help, but ideally a full custom map should be made for that set up.

Thanks Madchild. That makes sense. I am more interested in tires, Levers, rearsets, and raceskins right now. I want to take the stock bodywork off and save it. This will be my track bike soon enough.

Don't buy one, just make one. I made one that retained the valve just because I wanted a different look.

I was wondering the same thing about two bros. I have the slip-on which makes it sound great, but does nothing performance-wise. I wish I could just order the headers but I think I remember somebody saying you coudnt..for two bros anyways.

Dont waste money on a slip on save it towards a full system and Powercommander. I just installed the Akrapovic race full exhaust and a PCIII, big difference in power delivery
