How to launch good

so i went to the track here in calgary alberta on friday and these were my times.

2007 R6

R/T ... 0.542
60ft ... 2.196
1/8 ... 8.149 @ 95.62Mph
1/4 ... 12.268 @ 117.35Mph

I'm 205lbs, 6'2"

i have no idea what rpm i should be launching at or how i should be doing it but i know if i can get a better launch i can hit 11's. so any tips on what i should be doing, at what rpm i should i be launching at?

Re: How to launch good

I usually launch around 6k and then slip the clutch out to about the 60' mark while adding throttle gradually. Sometimes I barely use full throttle in first gear so I can keep the front down because if it comes up more then a couple of inches it will slow you down. I'm 6'0 and 155 suited up btw. If you can get your 60' below 2 then you will easily be in the 11's. My 60' is usually high 1.8 to low 1.9

Dude you can easily hit 10's with a good launch. I went 11.1 with a 1.8 and that was hangin the front wheel. i forget the mph

Re: How to launch good

I took my wifes R6 to the track a few times. She has a 01 R6. Two weeks ago I ran a 11.16@124 with a 1.81 60ft. I brought it up to 10-11,000 and launch slipping the clutch for a very short time. Another hint is, do not let off the gas at all. Tap your clutch very little and you will be able to speed shift the whole way down the track.

Re: How to launch good

Basically, you want to rev the engine to the point where it has maximum torque, not max HP.

Re: How to launch good

I launched at about 9K rpm slipping the clutch. That got me a 1.7 60'. 10.63 @130. Thats with stock gearing, and the front end strapped.

Re: How to launch good

wow your mph is also way low. are you using the clutch in all the gears? from now on just use the clutch in first, the rest just preload the shifter and blip the throttle. the 1-2 shift is a little scary at first, but just do it and you will be fine.
