Upgraded ram

I just upgraded the ram in my work laptop from 2 gb to 4gb and it seems that some things are slower. For example, when dragging an open window on the desktop its seems to lag, and also when scrolling up and down on the internet, but it seems to process information faster. I m thinking that when changed out the ram, maybe a setting was changed on my video card. If anyone has any advice it would be apperciated. If its any help its Polywell laptop, xp, with nvidia graphics card

Re: Upgraded ram

Unless you are running a 64 bit operating system, windows will probably have issues using 4GB of ram. Try running 3GB and see if it's faster.

Also, your motherboard may be limited to 2GB (common for laptops)

Are you sure you purchased the correct type (DDR, DDR2 etc...) and frequency (PC4200, 8500, etc...)

Any of these issues could cause the problem.

Re: Upgraded ram

Ok thats what i was thinking, I was going to take one of the 2gb ram sticks out and replace it with the old 1gb ram stick.

Also i checked the the motherboard and it is limited to 3gb.

And im sure it was the correct type.

So im going to open her up and see if this works.

thanks

Re: Upgraded ram

ok i don't think that changed anything.

everything seems to be the same.

i guess the next thing to do is to put all of the old ram back in and see if i still have the same problem.

Could you tell me the specs of your system. just mainly operating system if XP what service pack if Vista do you have SP1 .... ???
And the main problem you state your having is just lag from dragging windows and scrolling up and down or is there more to it?
