How To Install HID Lights On 2006 R6+

Hey everyone, here is yet another little how to on an hid install. I did not want to see any wires nor did I want to drill any holes. And I'd like to share how. All and all, I'd say I am very happy with the end result. Anyway, hope this helps someone:


1) Remove the windscreen


To do this, remove the front four black screws.


Then, remove mirrors by unbolting the two nuts on each side.


2) Now begin removing the front cowl assembly and headlight.


Remove these bolts on both sides, disconnect the harnesses, and remove front cowl.











3) Install the HID Bulbs in headlight


Grab the two lights from kit.


On the left is what the O.E. looks like and on the right is with the HID bulb in, and wires not yet ran.
*It is important to note what is going on here. I am removing the O.E. black harness and am replacing it with the new wires that are attached to the bulb. I am running them through the hole that is already provided.

This is what it looks like after.


4) Creating power harness for ballasts

I removed the blue connector from headlight harness, because I will not be using them anymore...


Use the power harness provided in the kit...


And splice using Yamaha's blue connector to the kits...



5) Mounting ballasts


This is somewhat self explanatory, but I mounted mine right above each of my turn signals inside the fairings.






6) Attach and bolt back up

Now it is as simple as bolting headlight back up into the cowl, bolting cowl back up the fairing stay, and connect harnesses.





Finish (except for the mirrors)

man this is an amazing how to.....I don't have this gen of bike but it's still amazing

Well since no instructions were provided with my Umnitza kit I had to go on the net to try and find a write-up. (I found yours)


You show how you clipped the blue connector and paired it with the power connectors from the HID kit, shown here:



I did that. I also clipped the wires coming from the buld and re-routed them through the casing, then reattached them; shown here:



From then on I was told it was plug and play, but once I reconnected all the plugs and reattached the headlight to the bike via the blue connectors, nothing lit up at all. Here is my setup as it stands right now.







I only thing I didn't touch were the black wires inside the casing that originally attached to OEM bulbs. I just assumed that since the HID bulbs have their own wires attached to the back of them that I don't need to worry with that black plug that originally plugged into the OEM lights.

I have checked all my wire snips/reconnects and every single one is tight and clean. The only thing left (if I did the wiring properly) is that either my bulbs or ballasts arrived DOA.

Could be a handful of things here...but what you have going on so far does appear to be correct.


1) Grab your voltmeter and ensure that you're connecting positive to positive (whats circled)

(perhaps harness is different in 06)

2) Check your fuses
(the main headlight fuse on the bike is still controlling power sent to the ballasts)

3) Have you both lights, tried both ballasts?
(maybe one of your ballasts is bad, or bulb??)

4) I know it's obvious, but lights do not turn on without bike started...
