scotts dampner issues

i have had a scotts dampner on my bike for a while now and i have never really messed with it to much just the knob with the arrow like thing on it. i have been setting my suspension up and i want to do the dampner also. i see there are two top adj. plus two small screw on both sides. what do all these do? which is high speed and low speed? also is the one with the arrow supost to click because mine doesnt but my buddies on his bike does. if anyone knows how to adj. it correctly and what settings are good i would really appriciate it!

Re: scotts dampner issues

Why would it click? Mine never does and as far as I know isn't supposed to...If you are talking about the left top adjuster, it doesn't "click" as in a noise. But, you can feel the notches and adjustments as you turn it.

Re: scotts dampner issues

I can definatly feel a click at each position for the dial. I would say that if you can not feel the diffrent positions that you might have an issue with your damper. I have also heard stories on here about the scotts damper locking up, you might want to get yours checked out.

Re: scotts dampner issues

You dont have an issue. If you look at the parts schematic, there is a little ball on a sping that clicks on an external set of notches. If its not clicking the unit may be dirty, no issue. Its external so it realy has nothing to do with the internal function. There are 8 notches per complete turn, and the factory setting is 8 clicks from full on (full ccw), turn it clockwise one full turn from full on.

Re: scotts dampner issues

You can call up scotts, and send your dampner back and they can rebuild it for you, im not sure of the cost, but my GPR is $45 with shipping.

If it doesn't click it may not retain its setting. In practice I doubt this is a problem.
