How often do you change your brake fluid?

Just wondering how often you guys change your brake fluid? I've been doing it yearly. Just wondering if I should stretch it out to every 2 years.

Re: How often do you change your brake fluid?

I usually do every other season, but depends how it looks. If after a year it looks like Cola I change it, but I never go more than 2 seasons on brake fluid. It's a cheap maintenance item. This is strictly for street riding. Track guys are way harder on the brakes therefore probably require more frequent changes.

street riding... yearly seems fine. Track riding depends on pace. Dont need to speed big dollars on brake fluid either. Standard DOT4 works just fine for top 10 MotoAmerica/expert club race pace.

Every other year is fine depending on your riding style too

Well over 40k street and haven't bothered. Stops fine. Had over 330k on the car fluid before I sold it with the original OEM front calipers still going strong. The OEM rear wheel cylinders were changed somewhere between 280 and 310; don't really recall. With much time and mileage, lever/pedal gets a little squishier but you can still lock'em up at will so, meh. Not a recommendation, just sharing my experiences. We haven't bothered with any of our vehicles over the many decades.

Fluid gets flushed and changed when brake pads get changed, so I recommend doing this monthly.

I generally do mines whenever it starts to look dark and dirty. That normally happens about every year, so in general, I change it just about once a year or so.

Chillin'... while the Lord watches over me!

I love my R6, but...there's no buts...

I personally change mine every 4 track days. Why? Because its cheap and brakes are important.

Re: How often do you change your brake fluid?

brake fluid is good for 2 years of street use. same with coolant.
also check with your local autozone or advance auto parts. my local advance accepts brake fluid mixed with oil engine oil. the recycler said it will accept transmission fluid, brake fluid and motor oil mixed in the same container. don't pour it out on the ground or throw it in the garbage
