Question 06 R6 as a Street Bike: Will it Suck?

Okay, so everyone is saying how Yamaha built the 06 R6 for the track, and how it has all these wonderful adrenaline pumping features.

What I don't understand are the comments on how this bike isn't for the street. What determines how good/not so good a bike is for the street? How much torque and low- to mid-range power does one really need? I realize there's the question of fun, and then there's pushing the envelope.

Will the 06 R6 not be fun on the street?

the 06 R6 was design to suited the track but it's still suitable for the street. All sport bikes are built to be off the show room race bikes not street bikes.

Yeah I reckon it would be fine. But for the price, I'd rather have a Gixxer 750 that will totally rape the R6 in EVERY field, it even weighs the same.

No offense, but I'm actually hoping that the price keeps an overflow of 2006 R6's on the street. The last thing I want to see around here is some first year rider with an 2006 R6 just because of its high redline and specs. Give me the slipper clutch and I'll be happy.

maybe I'm wrong but any of the bikes in this class... aren't exactly 'practical' for street riding (translation for my purposes = commuting ) It becomes really frustrating trying to ride this type of bike (I have an 05) and still follow all laws.

Well, I think the main area of concern is going to be the gearing. If you have ever ridden a 1000 around the city versus a 600, you will know that 1000 gearing is a lot longer and can be a PITA in traffic or tight streets. Now compound that gearing effect with drastically less levels of torque available from a much smaller engine. Personally, I think it's going to be a great bike, but not one that tollerates commuting as well as the 03-05, which is what the vast majority of people use these bikes for.

Suck it up and get the 06. You know that you're gonna get it. This is just your conscience rearing its ugly head. Have a few drinks and it will quiet down. you can go like 65 in 1st...plenty of torque there

Do what?

Liter bikes are awesome to ride around town because of the torque, you don't even have to leave 2nd gear, and you still have more pull to get in and out of traffic than a 600 in first, and you don't have to wrap the piss out of it.

Have you ever ridden a liter bike in town? It sounds like you haven't.

Riding in town sucks...

If you want a "Street Bike" get a FZ6 or and FZ1 or a SV....

2006 R6 is designed and built for the Race Track....
