* Weight! (#1)
* 0-60 in ~3 is fast enough.

At the time of purchase...

1. Price.
2. Experience.

Those two factors right there.

Re: Top reasons you choose R6 over R1?

Weight and size of the bike
Agility in the bends
Gearing - even altered the R1 gearing is too tall for my liking
Looks
Ridabilty - on UK roads

Donít get me wrong, I loved my 2013 R1, but ended up going back to an R6 for these reasons. I also have a ktm1190 but that totally different again. So, very similar bikes but for me the R 6 wins every time. I do intend on trying out the latest R1 and R6 to compare again.

Wouldn't the additional torque of an R1 make shorter gearing more likely to power-wheelie the bike on take-off?

Since I'm not racing anyone 99.9% of the time (street rider) I actually like the taller first. It can make the ratio jump from 1st to 2nd smoother. I also prefer lower RPMs at higher speeds. I hate having screaming high RPMs at highway speeds. If I want quicker acc then dropping a gear is always an option at any speed beyond 30mph. (dropping from 2nd to 1st can be risky otherwise I'd say 20mph)

Curious. What are your thoughts here?

I have the second gen and one thing I notice with the latest 3rd Gen, is how tiny the bike looks with a rider on it. I understand they cut wheel base and maybe size to improve handling, but dang, leave something for the taller riders.

Taller saddle was one of the reasons I chose the Yamaha over other sport bikes.

Well, dropping the hearing improved things for me, but a bike that will do almost a ton in 1st isnít meant for British roads, just my opinion. It did lift a little too easily your right but it was controllable. I like working the bike through the gears as with the R6, just feels like more fun to me and Iíd have lost my license had I kept the R1 I think. Too easy to nail it. And, I like the fact the new R1 is smaller suits my short arse look forward to comparing it to the R6. Still love my R1, just love my R6 more, especially on winding roads.

I mean the R6 is a terrible street bike. I dont under stand how ones license would be in jeopardy if you have good throttle control.

Basic power facts:
R6 makes a max of 45 ft lbs of torque @ 11,000 rpms
R1 makes a max of 80 ft lbs @ 9,000 rpms

So nearly double the torque at less RPMs. The manners of a good streetbike.
The R6 is like a stubborn goat... constantly needs a kick in the ass to get moving

Yup. 600cc super sports are terrible street bikes. But that is a learned opinion. Took me a while to learn that lesson.

Kinda like telling someone to not park their bike outside of their apartment vs. someone having their bike stolen because they parked it outside of their apartment. Both convey the same, but some people will only open their eyes after seeing for themselves.

Funny thing personal preference, the simple fact that a small twist of the wrist on an R1 puts you well over the speed limit, granted, with a huge grin, but far too easy = license loser . You have to work the R6 as you say. The good thing about personal preference is that itís personal, and yours doesnít make you right, but I wonít knock it because itís yours and your welcome to it . I find the R6 better on winding too, where the R1 harder to manage and requires more throttle restraint ( on road), but Iím probably wrong there too 🤣
Last point, the speed limits here are 20mph, 30mph, and 40mph before you get anywhere you can legally do 60-70. The R1 in my experience of my 13 plate model is no better than the R6!at these speeds and a tuned R6 is better. Again, just my experience. So, all clear? But remember, itís just my opinion, experience and preference - not fact....

Re: Top reasons you choose R6 over R1?

Price, weight, I've had two R6s in the past, I plan on going to the track for the first time (been planning on it for almost 10 years) so R6 made more sense. I have an FJ-09 for the road.

I live my life one corner at a time
