Just picked this up, 2006 50th Anniversary.

Just picked this little gem up tonight. Less than 9k miles.

nice buy. To find it with that much low miles. Did you ask why? Was the previous owner the original owner?

The person I bought it from was the original owner. I didnít question the miles, we live in the MN. Mother Nature doesnít bless us with a very long riding season...

Nice ride. I just sold my '06. I see your tach goes to 20K. Mind did too. The first few runs of the '06 had those tachs. Yamaha claimed it would rev to 20K, but it never did and they ended up with egg on their face. I still have my buy back letter Yamaha sent me because of this. After the first few runs Yamaha lowered the tach to 18K on the later '06's.

Buy back letter, as in buying the whole bike back??

Yep. There was an uproar over Yamaha marketing the capabilities of the 2006 as greater than they were (tach claimed redline at 17.5k when actually it was 16k or so - right Skeeter?). As a result, Yamaha offered to buy back bikes from people for whom the motivating factor for purchasing was a higher redline than the competition. Not many sold their bikes back but it was a thing.

Nice historical document Skeeter has there.

Yeah, it was several thousand less than the 20K on the gauge. It was a huge uproar when the magazines and the media got a hold of it. It did cross my mind for about 2 seconds to sell it back to Yamaha at full price, but it was my baby. Had some fun times on the bike. Hated to sell it, but I just didn't ride it much. I kept the letter for nostalgic purposes.
