From my experience, covers DID take the paint off the very tip of the tail of my bike. I tried several covers and seem to run into the same issue. The problem is that the tail comes to a point and the cover rests up against it. Constant moving eventually took the color off. Its worse if you aren't careful sliding the cover on and off, which I didn't realize when I first started using the cover. The rest of the bike seems fine, but I'm still trying to find a solution for the tail itself.
what about buying a microfiber towel? like a drying towel. so it's big enough you can attach it with something like a rubber band to hold it in place.

Re: Do covers cause scratches?

I suspect some of the complaints should really be aimed at low quality aftermarket fairings. (more specifically, the paint)

Most are designed with soft interior to not scratch

Re: Do covers cause scratches?

like the OP, I too have the OEM R6 Yamaha cover (model 2017+) and the fit is snug and the material is like polyester. I haven't checked but I don't know if the exhaust area has additional padding so I've been gentle when putting the cover on after riding to make sure it's not touching the exhaust area directly. But back to the fit, I find that the front, especially around the area of the mirrors, is very tight and like some others mentioned I do worry that after constant covering and removal there might be some scratching. It does take some time to put on correctly so currently, the cover is sitting in the trunk of my car, lol. And yes bikes a little dusty just need to find some time to wipe her down.

Re: Do covers cause scratches?

So I took a photo of where the color is rubbing off due to the cover. The right side of the photo is the tip of my tail. Upon taking a photo, I notice some of the color is also rubbing off on the exhaust side of the tail too.

There are paint protector film strips; typically used with cars.

Re: Do covers cause scratches?

ouch ya if the paint is gonna rub off I think I may be selective about when to use my cover vs using it every day.

Re: Do covers cause scratches?

You might try using some blue painters tape to cover the areas where the cover is wearing the paint.
Iíve had good luck doing this. The blue painters tape is made not to leave any adhesive residue behind and it peals off easily
