Steering Bearing/Race removal

Hey all,

I got stuck with trying to remove the lower race in my 2009 R6. The only punch I have worked for the top race, but the bottom one’ a bitch. It seems more recessed than the top race. I tried a flat head but it can’t catch the lip, any tips?

usually the bushing is the troublesome part to remove from the lower triple. Are they damaged? Why are you replacing them??

Re: Steering Bearing/Race removal

i get a clicking during tech at the track and the tech guy suggested your bearings could be loose. I tried tightening to no avail. I figure since the bearings haven’t been changed in 10yrs, i might as well. I dont think anything is damaged from the looks of it.

I think the angle of the steering head to get to the lower is different? I tried using a 12" flat head, and a 5/16 punch, can't catch the edge, barely, maybe too thick?
I just bought an 8" flathead screwdriver, gonna see if that works.

Any suggestions?

Re: Steering Bearing/Race removal

yeah, but manual suggests races and bearings replace as a set.

Hence, stuck with the bottom race.

Update: Ahh, just needed a non tapered punch/rod - did the trick
