Replace camshaft sprockets

Replacing my timing chain and camshaft sprockets as a set, on a 2007 r6. Service manual says camshaft bolts need to be torqued 17ft-lbs. Anybody have experience getting leverage on the sprocket to torque to spec?

Re: Replace camshaft sprockets

Bah, don't worry about torque. Finger... no... wrist tight and it'll be fine.

Joking of course.

I can visualize it, but explaining it...
Two longish thick boards, each with a hole in them, set on your lap. The backside of the sprocket rests on the boards with the cam hanging free. Something strong, like a cut broom stick or socket extension inserts through the sprocket holes and into the boards. That should hold it while you use the leverage afforded by the boards to get it to the required 17 ft-lbs... which ain't really much.

Obviously I've not needed to do that yet.

Re: Replace camshaft sprockets

why wouldnt you put adjustable sprockets on??
You can get it tight enough to install... then final torque when they are in the engine and you (or your helper) can hold the crankshaft bolt from rotating.
