Mount and balance your own tires?

At the track this weekend, they were mounting and balancing tires. They put the tire on. Then put a bar where the axle would go and set it on stand so the tire would spin freely. He then found the spots that need weights and added them.

It looked really simple. Has anyone used this before?

I haven't done it myself but I've also seen it done & it doesn't seem too hard. The hardest thing would be getting the tires off & the new ones on again without stuffng up the rims.

i was reading the 03 r6 shop manual and it shows how to balance the tires. you need a tire balancer though. where do you go and get one? the jobe doesnt look too hard and you could save some money doing it yourself.
