Changing the intake setup?

A guy that I rode with took his stock air ducts out and replaced them with larger less restrictive hoses.

Has anyone else modified their air intake system?

It is a 2000 so carb

The bike is hella fast and he said the most noticeable gains were with this air flow modification.

But it also has:
Full system
Jet kit
Two up one down sprocket modif
Everything that is not necessary is removed for weight reduction

The bike pulls hard but it has a lot of stuff done to it.
