These settings make for a good baseline to start from though IMO. Then you can tinker from there.

I haven't checked Sport Rider's site yet regarding suspension settings, but their new February 2004 Issue is out... Just picked up a copy and they give a nice runthrough of basic suspension information regarding what the major components do.

Regarding the settings, different things work for different people. Rider weight is one of them.

They mention that preload should be set to 25mm roughly for ontrack, and 30 mm for street riding.

They touch upon the sag of the suspension as well, and how to correctly measure and adjust it for various desired effects. (you sitting on your bike, while another steadies and measures the sag while you have your weight on the suspension) ....

Very informative article, I recommend you guys check it out if you haven't already. Quite a good magazine for its (low) price

Yes it does...You should set your sag, and your static sag to your weight, that way the bike is pretty much set up for you, which makes sense, since you are the one that rides it. There are articles on the internet on how to do it. When you set your sag, you have a choice as to how you want to set it (riding style).
If you can't find anything, I can help you.
Oh, yeah..It effects handling, too.

call guiness..

Here's what I ran before I dropped all the weight:

STREET:
Front Preload: 1 ring showing
Front Rebound: 3 clicks out
Front Compression: 2 clicks out
Rear Preload: position 4
Rear Rebound: 10 clicks out
Rear Compression: 10 clicks out
Forks 5mm through triple tree
35 psi

RACE:
Front Preload: 1 ring showing
Front Rebound: 2 clicks out
Front Compression: 2 clicks out
Rear Preload: position 4
Rear Rebound: 2 clicks out
Rear Compresion: 3 clicks out
Forks 7mm through triple tree
32 psi

Those are a little different than most I know, but it's scary how quick the bike turns.
