Fuel Pump Question

This may be a dumb question, but I'm looking to buy a new fuel pump because mine is no longer pumping at spec. I'm looking to save some money if at all possible so I was wondering if fuel pumps usually need to be replaced? Is it worth it to pay the extra $200 for a new one or will a used one off of Ebay be a better call?

Thank you!

Honestly i would rather dish out the cash for new. My bike has 21000 miles on it woth the original fuel pump, but they do tend to go bad from time to time. When you say it isnt pumping to spec... How have you verified this?

Re: Fuel Pump Question

The shop I took it to to troubleshoot a related problem said they hooked it up and that it was pumping at 36lbs instead of 48lbs. I assume they just used a pressure gauge of some kind to test it. It certainly fits the bill for the problems my bike's been having. But thanks for the advice. Probably better to eliminate chance and just go with a new one.

Re: Fuel Pump Question

that is low but it's rated at 46.3–47.7 psi per the service manual.
